THE WORD | Bill Cunningham New York

Do you know who he is? If you don’t, don’t worry - you’ll get your chance soon enough when the movie, Bill Cunnningham New York is released in Australia in a couple of weeks. The movie is a cinematic profile on the world’s original street style photographer, Bill, an 80-year old New York Times photographer who has been obsessively chronicling fashion trends on the streets and at parties since the late 1970’s. He has photographed absolutely everybody from Greta Gabor, Anna Wintour I remember reading an interview with him, his trained eye for a great image and style transcends ‘trends’, that the style he captures on the streets are far more exciting, more important that what you see on the runway. He cycles absolutely everywhere in New York, swooshing in an out in his blue jacket or his night fluoro vest and continues to do so with such passion. He comes across as such an enigmatic man, i can’t wait to watch this poignant film about a dedicated artist. He is one of a kind.
